With my painting I wanted to raise awareness to the challenges women face in all regions of the world. Especially in my home country Turkey and all around the world there is a significant rise in femicides and violence against women. Recently, Turkey had withdrew from the Istanbul Convention which used to condemn domestic violence against women. Thus being extra sensitive about the topic, I wanted to work on a portrait which would emphasize these issues. I have preferred to narrate an image that every woman would feel a connection to, once they see it; an image that would represent the womanhood as a whole. I have chosen to use darker and pastel tones for my painting so that it will create a sense of pessimism for the audience.I have also chosen to make the background more blurry so that the focal point of the painting will be on the image of the women. With my painting, I aim to raise awareness of the audience towards the iincreasing violence women face throughout their life and to the necessity of protecting the womens rights
