Constellation of S

“Constellation of S” is the result of an exploration into various facets that compose my identity and interest in the human condition - specifically, items of identity in my human experience. My birth chart, a map showing the positions of the planets at the time of someone's birth, from which astrologers are said to be able to deduce character or potential, is accompanied by individual motifs that all together, serve as an artistic blueprint for one part of my identity. The gladiolus flower, symbolizing strength, and moral integrity is the birth flower of August, the month of my birth. The tiger, my Chinese zodiac sign paying homage to my Asian roots. The lion, representative of my Western zodiac sign.

Peridot, the birthstone of August known as “the gem of the sun” as discovered by the Egyptians which is strongly associated with light, unifying the sun motif with its astrological components. The Mandarin characters translate to “the child of sunlight”, a fitting phrase in a culmination of aspects of my identity. Combining the elements present in my personal interests and aspects of my identity introduced the circular motif best represented as a constellation - the “Constellation of S”.
