Students were asked to research and define a list of words* provided by the professor. Students had to choose a word from the given list to work with for this assignment. The objective was to create 3 different posters that thematically translated their chosen word. They could define the word by any means of their choice: analogy, parody, contradiction, etc.
* bricolage, convergence, denotation, dissonance, hybrid, hyperbole, isomorphic, kitsch, lexicon, mélange, metonymy, mnemonics, modularity, morphology, nascent, nonlinearity, pastiche, polysemy, simulacrum, tautological, vernacular, zeitgeist

This project was intended to exercise typographic skills, to evaluate the diverse experiences of ARTS 412 students, and to provide an opportunity to explore issues such as tone, voice, legibility and composition. Students were given a text by Georges Perec entitled Brief Notes on the Art and Manner of Arranging One’s Books.
Students were asked to read this text carefully. Then incorporate Perec’s text with their own list of books (all or selected titles, actual or desired), described and ordered in some way that responded to the Perec text and possibly commented on other major interests of theirs.
For this assignment, students were asked to create a prototype for a phone application for University of Binghamton’s Art and Design Co-op. Students were divided into three groups and were encouraged to do all initial research regarding the app, before they move to the designing part of their process. Students contacted interviews with the stuff of the Art and Design Co-op, as well as students that use the Co-op. Using the AEIOU (Activities, Environments, Interactions, Objects and Users) system, students performed observations related to the Art and Design Co-op. After brainstorming as one group and agreeing on a structured wireframe, students worked within their groups in order to bring the phone application to life. The final outcome was three fully functional app prototypes (created using Adobe XD).
