The zine project is the culmimantion of effort for this course. Using tools and techniques learned through the semester - editing raster images with Photoshop, creating vector illustrations with Illustrator, and pulling these graphics into a book layout with InDesign, students produced zines on a subject of choice.
With a straight-forward and efficient visual language, posters of the WPA of the 1930's and 40's provide a unique image of an important era in America’s past. Through the Works Progress Administration, the U.S. government became a vital patron of the arts, employing hundreds of artists to create millions of posters promoting positive social ideals.
With this project we attempt to follow the rules of the WPA poster: simple color, distinct imagery, motivated messaging - but with a contemporary twist.
